In today’s fast-moving world, the difference between success and failure is not in what you know but in what you do with what you know.
Lean Learning equips you with the tools to do just that, propelling you towards your goals with greater efficiency, purpose, and results.

Pat Flynn, a seasoned and serial entrepreneur and business mentor to millions, draws on his own experiences and of those who have successfully implemented his techniques.

Reeling from Inspiration Overload?
Lean Learning is a book that should help those of us who over-index on "too much information" at the cost of actually applying what we're learning. (We know who we are!) Chapter One talks about "Inspiration Overload," the "Art of Selective Curiosity," and helpful 2x2 called the "Inspiration Matrix." Chapter Two covers "Choosing Action over Information," because it's one thing to KNOW the value of action, but how do we get to action? That's the first quarter of the book and hopefully this sneak peek helps you identify if this book might be a good fit for you. I suspect if you're reading this, it likely is.

The author of "Lean Learning", Pat Flynn, is a great guy. He called himself for years 'a crash dummy of the online business' sharing his progress and stumbles along the way from being laid out to building an enterprise empire.
I like him, and all his books I read.

But Flynn never pretended to be perfect, nor is "Lean Learning" perfect. So, before telling you about all of the great things you can find in the book, I'll, traditionally, start from a couple of
    CONS
    1. The Book Is Traditionally Published.
It just rubs me the wrong way. If you are a celebrity and don't know any better, yes, publish your book traditionally. But if you have following in millions? You are just making your publisher rich with a very few (and limited) upsides for you.
Flynn could've published this book a year ago if not the lengthy traditional process. More people would get the message faster.
I paid almost $20 for the Kindle version (because of a Polish VAT tax). There is no justification for such pricing but fatting the publisher's purse. I doubt Flynn will get $2 out of that.
For that price point, the publishing process should supposedly be super-professional. Just one blunder with this book - there should be no paperback version at all, as New York Times bestseller status is about 50% of Flynn's reasoning to NOT self-publish, and having two hardcover versions dilutes the sales result.
Incompetent and overpriced, that's what traditional publishing is!

    2. Too Much Content.
The book started with a great opening, a mini story with a twist. But the introduction quickly turns into a long-winded pep talk about how Lean Learning will make your life so much better.
    Over, and over again.
Then, we got a foreshadowing of what will be included in the following chapters. I found it a little ironic that the book that teaches you how to learn exactly what you need right now wastes your time on reading about what you will be reading further. Highly annoying, if you ask me.
And throughout the book there were numerous hints as to what's in the next chapter or later on.
C'mon! I just want to read the core messages, not introductions!
I suppose, the goal of those teasers was to keep a reader glued to the book, cos' people are notoriously bad at following through with a non-fiction lecture. Well, I didn't need it.
And I found at least two sections of the book very out of place: The Power of a Personal Why and The Bold and the Beautiful. They were like philosophical treaties inside of a meaty textbook. All the other chapters are filled with frameworks for learning the right things at the right time. Those two?! Out of place.
And you know what? I blame the publisher for this too. They just cannot stand thin books. It's hard to justify the fat price with those. So, they made the author produce more words. I'm not saying it happened exactly like that, I just suspect it.

    Alright, alright, I'm calm now!

So, let's get to the numerous and wonderful
    PROS
    1. Humor.
I like it when non-fiction cracks me up. Almost every side note from the author, in italics or brackets, was hilarious and making me smile or laugh out loud. Don't miss those side notes!

    2. Written From A Hard Won Experience.
First of all, Flynn started his online business from zero. Plus, he had to overcome social pressure to be normal (9 to 5 job, etc.).
He built multiple various income streams (10? more?) by learning new things. Second, he has a business of teaching others different parts of online entrepreneurship and their success ratio is 37% compared to 5-10% of the industry average.
He knows how to learn, and how to teach to learn well.

    3. Questions and Frameworks.
We overconsume information on autopilot. We turn off thinking and scroll through endless feeds.
Good questions can snap you out of it. First and foremost, questions operate with language, which activates the parts of your brain responsible for conscious processing. They force you to think, thus you cannot be in the autopilot anymore.
Frameworks limit your overthinking, which often leads to overconsumption: I need to learn also this, and this, and this! Flynn provides neat step-by-step specific formulas that will make you apply his Lean Learning concept. You don't need to think too much, just follow the steps.

    4. JITI Concept.
"(...)essence of JITI—focusing precisely on the information required at the moment and intentionally blocking out everything else."
When I was starting my first blog, I had to learn how to buy a domain, host a website, install WordPress, format my posts, add WP plugins... But I didn't need to know it all before I bought the domain. It was a logical sequence of actions, and I learned those steps one by one.
    This is Just-In-Time-Information.
It was similar to publishing my first book. I didn't need to format an eBook, before I created my Amazon account. I didn't need to learn how to do a free promo before I had the book published.
It's the only logical way to do new things. Yet, we humans aren't very logical and often we hoard a load of information while we need just a piece of it- the next piece.

    5. Micro Mastery Concept.
"Micro Mastery is, effectively, Lean Learning within Lean Learning."
Chapter 7 is worth the book's price (even the inflated publisher's price, yikes!).
Embrace the reality that you need to learn just about the next item in the queue, nothing else. Don't learn about editing before you have written something.
When learning editing, do it one method at a time. Self-editing, copy editing, line editing, proofreading... Because you will need them one at a time in a specific order. Doing anything else is overconsumption of information.
Learn the next step, implement it, master it, and then learn another thing.
"Break it down… then break it down some more."
This is the gist of it. I can do a zillion things in my business: write an email broadcast, offers, perform sales calls, touch base with clients, content marketing... But I can focus on one small thing at the time. Not just writing an email broadcast - writing a compelling subject.

    6. Action, Not Knowledge.
Flynn guides you exactly how to ditch "forever learning" and act. And he is good at it (remember 3-4 higher than industry standard success ratio of his students?).
There are about a dozen step-by-step frameworks in "Lean Learning". Like this one:
    • Identify the next step in your journey.
    • Gather the minimum amount of information required to complete that step.
    • Take action and complete the step.
    • Rinse and repeat.
So simple. So easy. So applicable.

    Summary
I highly recommend "Lean Learning." The more information you consume , the more you will benefit from reading it.
Feeling stuck? Paralyzed by indecision? This book is your solution.

A brilliantly-written guide on how to prioritize and achieve your daily goals. I found this book to be absolutely invaluable. A must read for everyone! Lean Learning gives new insights on how to filter research required for projects, learning to distribute priorities, and creating the perfect environment to help achieve goals. The author shares stories perfectly piecing together each chapter up until the end. I appreciated the repetition of key information, and kept me tethered to previous chapters until everything comes full circle.
There are so many elements in which creators, business leaders, and even parents can implement to accomplish success! Definitely recommend!

An incredible book by an incredible author.
Pat does so much for the community, and his book is no exception—it truly took me by surprise with how it begins. As you read, it challenges you to reflect and better understand yourself. I found the experience almost therapeutic, as it encourages you to see things from new perspectives. A thought-provoking and deeply impactful read thank you Pat for all you do!
